Iowa runs trade licensing through two boards. The Iowa Plumbing & Mechanical Systems Board handles both HVAC and plumbing on a unified 3-year cycle. Electrical licensing is administered separately by the Iowa Electrical Examining Board.
Iowa's Master HVACR designation allows experienced contractors to skip parts of the standard exam process — useful for those moving up from journeyman. The state offers no formal reciprocity, but Iowa is one of the states accepted as substantially equivalent by Delaware and New Hampshire.
TradesIQ tracks Iowa license renewals, CE hours, bonds, and insurance certificates in one dashboard — with automated reminders before anything lapses.
